NFB and NFB Lexington
The National Federation of the Blind is the largest non-profit organization of people who are blind speaking for themselves nationally and internationally. The mission of the National Federation of the Blind is changing what it means to be blind in our society. With the philosophy that "it's respectable to be blind", many people who are blind have made great strides and excelled in accomplishments, such as, becoming educators, attorneys, engineers entrepreneurs and advocates. The National Federation of the Blind sponsors numerous programs, services and scholarships for people who are blind.
The National Federation of the Blind of Lexington is a chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Kentucky which is an affiliate of the national organization. NFB of Lexington was founded by Pamela Roark-Glisson in april of 1994. Pamela Roark-Glisson and the early pioneers of this chapter were diligent and instrumental in ensuring that NFB Lexington provides support, information and mentoring to those in the community who are blind or who are losing their vision. Members of NFB of Lexington are very active in the community by working, serving as advocates, using public transportation and attending Council meetings. Members of NFB Lexington enjoy attending church, frequenting favorite restaurants, concerts and ball games as well as engaging in other activities.
